Content Editing, Copy Editing and Proofreading
In addition to writing content, I sometimes have the privilege of editing other people’s writing. This is a duty I take seriously — the quality of my client’s final product is in my hands. As a former journalist, I’ve worked with AP Style for a decade and counting. However, I can and routinely do apply my clients’ house styles, some of which are based on the Chicago Manual of Style, and I keep both Chicago and AP within arm’s reach.
Due to the nature of editing, I can’t quite link samples here. However, I can certainly give you some of my credits as an editor and copy editor. For a list of comic book editing credits, please see my Comic Books page. Outside of comics, my work has included:
- Copy editing for Edmunds.com and Inside Line, popular Web sites bringing consumers news and reviews about cars and the automotive industry.
- Editing services for contributors to Personal Injury Law: A Reference for Accident Victims, which is described in more detail on my page about ghostwriting services.
- Proofreading for Sacred Spaces, a book published in 2003 on architecture of religious structures in Los Angeles.
- Many years of copy editing and proofreading in my former full-time reporter jobs.
In addition, I’ve done a bit of editing work that could be called localizing — smoothing out translations of academic papers that have been translated into less than perfect English. I am delighted to work on editing a dissertation, thesis or paper written by students who are not native English speakers, though I have had to turn down very highly technical work in the past.
