Legal Marketing and Other Services for Law Firms
I've had the good fortune to develop a specialty in writing about the law. The majority of my legal-industry clients are law firms and lawyers who offer services directly to the public: personal injury, criminal defense, family law and a few bankruptcy. (Ironically, my training as a legal writer was among large law firms, which I covered as a reporter at the Los Angeles Daily Journal.) For those clients, I write Web pages, blog posts and a handful of print marketing materials. Almost all of the Web pages and blog posts are written for search engine optimization (SEO). In almost all cases, my name is nowhere on the finished project, and the writing is a work made for hire that leaves the law firm with complete ownership of the intellectual property. I ask only that clients allow me to use the finished product to market my own services.
I cannot stress enough that I am not a licensed attorney in California or any other jurisdiction. That means I can't give outright legal advice and am not qualified for certain tasks you might give to a contract lawyer. However, I am quite comfortable reading and editing legal writing and would be happy to help polish a journal article, academic paper or anything else -- as long as it doesn't violate ethics rules.
Samples of Writing for Law Firms
I do quite a lot of blogging for attorneys, but for practical reasons, I feel it's best not to claim credit for it in public. If you are interested in seeing these, please contact me and I'd be happy to send you a list of links.
Some examples of my Web site work for attorneys include:
Personal Injury:
AtlantaTrialLawyers.com, for Georgia personal injury firm Allen L. Broughton, P.C.
Practice area pages on a variety of topics for South Carolina's Louthian Law Firm
CaliforniaTruckAccidentAttorneys.com, a Web site for San Francisco firm Gillin, Jacobson, Ellis & Larsen.
DogBiteClaim.com, a site about Missouri dog bite law by the law firm of Page | Cagle.
Various informational articles for LegalView.com, including "Traumatic Brain Injury and Memory Loss," and "Gestational Diabetes Can Harm Mother and Child."
I'm proud to say that one client, Albany's Martin, Harding & Mazzotti, took an article I wrote for them about mesothelioma (a cancer generally caused by asbestos) and made it into a short video:
Criminal Defense:
Practice area pages and a home page for Meng & Alpert of Maryland. (I also handled the pages they have on personal injury.)
Practice area pages only for Wallin & Klarich.
Selected practice area pages for Steven Eversole, a solo practitioner in Birmingham, AL.
Practice area pages only for Takakjian, Sowers & Sitkoff here in Los Angeles.
Family Law:
Selected practice area pages for Orange County's Wallin & Klarich.
Family law, criminal defense and supporting pages for Colorado Springs family and criminal attorney Jennifer B. James.
A home page and practice area pages for St. Louis divorce attorney Tonya D. Page.
Other Legal Practices:
Selected practice areas (from "Bankruptcy Overview" to "The New Bankruptcy Law") for BetterBankruptcy.com.
A home page and all practice area pages except one (on the California Legal Remedies Act) for "lemon" lawyer Howard Silver.
Selected practice area pages for New York City real estate law firm Robert Aronov & Associates.
I have also handled Web content for a probate lawyer, business litigators and employment attorneys. I have many more samples, especially in personal injury -- if you'd like to see more, or want to talk about how I can help with your project, just drop me a line.
