About Me
I'm a journalist by background, having worked at four newspapers in Southern California and Central Texas. (Please see my resume for the details.) I've covered the sentencing of an assassin, a singing Baptist preacher, a major law firm merger and new trends in intellectual property litigation. Journalism is a great way to learn a little about a lot of different things -- and to learn how to read thick legal documents. Working in newspapers left me with the belief that good communication is concise without sacrificing details or clarity.
Since going freelance, I've spent a lot of time working in "new media" -- Web site copy, blogs and search-engine optimization. While nothing can replace my pleasure in the printed word, I believe the Web is the future of media; smart companies of all kinds have already recognized this. I've also had the good fortune to work in magazines, where I've enjoyed the opportunity to explore subjects in more detail than the newspaper format allows. While I've embraced the legal and comics specialties that I somehow developed, I enjoy any work that's intellectually interesting or creative.
I live in West Los Angeles and do not write screenplays.
